Additional Services

Introduction

We detail below a few of the additional services and activities at the Next Generation. We constantly strive to increase the services that we provide in line with customer feedback and regularly hold customer surveys to assist in this process.

Swimming Lessons

At the swimming pool with the Next Generation NurserySwimming lessons are available for all Pre-School children. Children are picked up from nursery and taken to the pool, accompanied by our staff, in a minibus fully fitted with restraints. The lessons are at Hindley Pool and they last for 30 minutes. The lessons are enjoyed by all including our staff who are also in the pool to give reassurance. The additional cost is paid directly to the swimming club.

Hairdressing Service

Hairdressing service at the Next Generation Nursery We know how difficult it can be for some children and parents when it’s time for a hair cut! We have made it into a fun occasion for all those who participate. Our hairdresser – Karen comes to nursery approximately every 6 to 8 weeks and we set up a mini salon in the Pre-School room.

The children that are having their hair cut get out the chairs and line them up to watch the others – like a waiting room. This makes having haircut a fun event which all the children look forward to and even the younger children are as good as gold because they are in a place and atmosphere with which they are familiar. A fringe trim costs £1.50 and a haircut costs £3.

Child Development Records / Parents Evenings

At the nursery we will keep a Child Development Record for each child dependant upon their age. This record also includes a ‘National Curriculum Flower’, which is used to measure your child’s progress towards achieving the QCA DFEE ‘ Early Learning Goals’. Our aim is to help you to keep a record of your child’s achievements. A sample development record is available to view on the notice board in the reception area. We also complete transition records for each child when they go to school.

We also hold regular parent’s evenings to allow you to spend time talking to staff freely about your child and to view their work folders without the usual distractions. If parents find it difficult to attend in the evening it is always possible to make appointment to speak to staff in greater detail.

Newsletters

A newsletter for parents is sent out at least quarterly with additional newsletters for special times e.g. Christmas, children in need etc. The newsletter will detail our plans for the future and the nursery’s latest news / activities and topics to be covered.

Trips / Outings

To the post box with the Next Generation NurseryThese range from our annual summer visit to Knowsley Safari Park and visits and introduction to the theatre. We also like to take regular walks along the local canal to feed the ducks, to the post box or the park.

Visits

The fire brigade visit the Next Generation NurseryIn order to enhance the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world around them we have regular visits from ‘ Welephant’ – fire safety, local police constable – stranger danger and the dental hygienist etc.

Nappies etc.

Unlike many other nurseries we provide nappies, baby wipes, nappy cream and baby food for the younger children. We also provide sunscreen for all of the children subject to your approval.

Children in need / Operation Christmas Child

Annually we arrange sponsored events and cake sales etc. to raise money for Children in need or relevant charity. We are very proud of the contributions that we collect our record last year was £1200. The children enjoy the events and the older ones learn about helping others.

We also support Operation Christmas Child where parcels can be brought in to be sent to disadvantaged children all over the world.
