About Schoolies Club

During the year 2000 we had our premises extended to provide a large purpose built room with modern bright décor especially created for the 4 – 11’s age group.  The Next Generation has always aimed to provide care in a safe, stimulating, homely & happy environment.  In the ‘Schoolies’ Room we aim to add fun & friendship in an out of school environment.

What we get up to at the ‘Schoolies’ Club

The room is organised in order to provide several different areas for different purposes. It has a relaxing / reading corner, a home corner, and areas for both floor and table activities of which we have a large variety. Schoolies have pet chinchillas which they take turns helping to look after / clean out. They love to watch our chinchillas scurrying around the room in their exercise ball.

We have many ‘usual’ activities e.g. Dressing up / face painting, badge making, smoothie making etc. but we also try to plan additional or have impromptu activities for example trips to the cinema or watch Wigan Athletic train or general local walks etc.

The Schoolies have their own Computer and appropriate software which is freely available. They also have a Playstation which they are allowed to play on for two 30-minute periods per day (Holiday care) one 30-minute session (after school) during which encourages sharing and teamwork.

Drop off / Pick up services.

This service is available from selected local schools. Children are accompanied to and from school and ‘Schoolies’ Club in appropriately licensed vehicle, usually one of our own minibuses, to St Bernadette’s and Millbrook or by means of ‘Walking bus’ to St Anne’s just around the corner. Whilst at the ‘Schoolies club they receive a breakfast of fruit juice or milk and wholemeal toast which they ‘ customise’ to their own taste with various toppings e.g. Cheese spread or lime marmalade to name but a few and / or afternoon tea – which is an activity in itself. The children make their own sandwiches using a wide variety of healthy toppings, they put their choice of toppings on toast, crumpets etc and we have just introduced at the ‘Schoolies’ request – carrot / celery sticks, cucumber, tomatoes etc. and garlic bread for with their pizza! All are usually followed by fresh fruit or fruity fromage frais. This has given them responsibility as well as personal choice – and an older identity.
