Our baby room has a cosy atmosphere that is stimulating and fun. It is self-contained with areas for sleeping, eating and play. The children’s toys and equipment are used on a rota basis to ensure that they are constantly being stimulated and challenged.
The Baby room uses the ‘Birth to three matters’ framework to inform planning and organise activities to ensure the full potential is gained from each opportunity. The Baby room is also run with the fact that each child is an individual and knowing that children don’t all work to the same routine – tastes and needs catered and unlike other nurseries we provide nappies, wipes, cream and sun cream. We also provide powdered baby food, jars or liquidised nursery food dependant upon your child’s stage of development.
Your child will bring home an information sheet to keep you informed of what they have done / eaten etc. during the day.
Infant Room (1.5 to 3 years)
When your child is ready, usually about 15 months, the next stop on the journey through nursery is the Infant room. They will have been visiting Infant room for sessions so that they will be fully acquainted with the staff, children and routines to ease the transmission from room to room. Here, again, the nursery plans activities in accordance with the ‘ Birth to three matters’ framework to ensure the children have the correct resources and experiences to achieve their full potential, and uses 5 weekly activity rotas to ensure variety etc. Nappies, wipes, creams, sun cream and all food are still provided.
As your child progresses the Infant room will be a very important transitional period in the child’s life. They will start to become more involved in art and craft activities and begin to use basic work sheets to learn about colours, shapes and basic pencil control skills. The balanced activities of the ‘Birth to three matters’ framework go hand in hand with the ever important learning through play to prepare your child for the challenges of Pre-School. They will also start basic group activities to help with sharing, taking turns and forming friendships. Wipes, cream. Sun cream and nappies are still provided. Also this tends to be the toilet training stage which we are more than experienced at to give help and advice!! Here your child’s information will be on a daily information sheet on the Infant room notice board.
Pre-School Room
The next stage along the journey is the Pre-School room. Here the children begin to prepare for going to school, learning many valuable lessons along the way. The whole of the nursery is inspected by OFSTED for care standards but here in Pre-School OFSTED also assess standards of education. At our most recent inspection our Pre-School room staff, children and planning were all praised and we gained the highest rating it was possible to gain. We have been pleased to give our Wigan Community Advisory Teacher (CAT), at her request, examples of our planning to share with other providers as examples of Good Practise. This all sounds fairly serious but don’t worry – the ever important ‘learning through play’ is still very much in evidence – we just as always, provide the tools to enable them to make the most out of every opportunity. There are topics / themes e.g. People who help us, transport, healthy eating, China to name but a few. All these will help to broaden your child’s learning experiences. We use the Stepping Stones method of tracking progress and we will also be able to identify any areas they may need more time to work on to give the best possible start. Pre-School also have pet guinea pigs which they love to help look after. Any daily information with regard to meals etc. will be displayed on the information board on Pre-School’s door.
